One of the most spectacular albums to come our way, ever! 126 female and male voices sing the story of the people on the tiny island of Rapa Iti -- total population 328 -- 1000 miles southeast of Tahiti, the last piece of land before the South Pole. The quarter-tonal choral sound is often reminiscent of African singing, sometimes of western hymns, and at moments even Eastern European singing, in the vocal strength of the women especially. Some songs are translated into English, and others were not able to be translated, since much of the original dialect has been lost. HHighly recommended!
