Notes / Reviews
L.P. (from New York City), are a rock group formed by 25-yr-old L.P. and now consist of singer L.P.(her initials), guitarists Tony Finn and Josh Flagg, bassist Scott Kelliher, and drummer Scott Campbell. Released 2 albums, Heart-Shaped Scar(2001) and Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol (2004). L.P. has an amazing operatic rock voice (her late mother was an opera singer) as well as a chilling musical sound. These songs describe angst, lust and loss, both heartfelt and hopeless.

L.P. once fronted the band LIONFISH, which released 2 albums.

Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol, was an album released in 2004 by the band L.P.. The first track "Wasted" was used as the opening theme for the second and third season of The N's show South of Nowhere.

Artist/Band Information

L.P. is a female pop/rock artist and songwriter from New York City. She currently resides in Los Angeles, and has recently signed to RedOne's record label, 2101 Records, a joint venture with Universal Music Group International.

Early career

Koch Records signed L.P. in 2001, and she released her debut album, Heart Shaped Scar, which was followed in 2004 by Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol which featured the singer working with singer and songwriter, Linda Perry on the track, "Darkside". Also in 2001, "Kiss It All Goodbye" from her Heart-Shaped Scar album was featured in the movie, "The Safety of Objects," starring Glenn Close.

In 2006, L.P. appeared at music conference, South by Southwest, and reportedly sparked a bidding war amongst major labels, eventually being signed by L.A. Reid to his Island Def Jam Music Group record label, part of the Universal Music Group. Under the IDJ deal, she wrote with many pop songwriters such as Matthew Gerrard, Billy Steinberg, Alexander Kronlund, Ted Bruner, Christopher Rojas, Fernando Garibay, Desmond Child, Chantal Kreviazuk, Raine Maida and Billy Mann, however, due to artistic differences she left the contract.

L.P. signed to SoBe Entertainment in 2007, an independent record label with the album tracks she had written at the major label. "Love Will Keep You Up All Night," one of the tracks she had written at Island Def Jam Music Group with Billy Mann, was released in late 2007 on the Backstreet Boys album, Unbreakable. She wrote and performed, "Wasted," from her album Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol, which was the theme song for a television show "South Of Nowhere" on The N currently known as TeenNick. It first aired on November 4, 2005 and the final episode aired on December 12, 2008. MTV's The Hills has also featured L.P.'s song "Damage Is Done" in mid-2010, which has since been released to iTunes.

During 2009 L.P. started writing songs for other artists, working extensively on the Heidi Montag album, Superficial (Warner Music). L.P. co-wrote the single, "More Is More", as well as the album tracks, "Twisted", "Hey Boy" and "Love It or Leave It". L.P. also co-wrote other tracks for and with Montag, such as the Cathy Dennis co-write, "Look How I'm Doin'", "I Do This" and "Who's That Girl." She also co-wrote the Lolene tracks, "Limousine", "Fucked Up" and "Just Like Me". A song she wrote with Alexander Kronlund,"Standing Where You Left Me", was released on Erik Hassle's debut UK album, Pieces (Roxy/EMI/Universal).

2010 - Present

In August 2010, it was announced that L.P. has signed to RedOne's record label, 2101 Records. RedOne is a Grammy Award-nominated Moroccan producer/songwriter and has been described as the key to Lady Gaga's musical sound. RedOne and L.P. are currently in the studio working on her forthcoming album.

She landed her first major breakthrough as a songwriter, co-writing Rihanna's song "Cheers" featured on "Loud" which is the fifth studio album by Barbadian recording artist Rihanna, released November 12, 2010 on Def Jam Recordings. Rihanna's song "Cheers" features a vocal hook performed by L.P. (taken from Avril Lavigne's "I'm With You"). Rihanna tells MTV News about the song "I love that song . That is one of my favorite songs on the album. It makes you feel like celebrating. It gives you a great feeling inside, like you want to go out and have a drink. ... People can't wait for the weekend."

L.P.'s major label songwriting breakthroughs continued, she co-wrote "Beautiful People" performed by Christina Aguilera. The song is featured on the Burlesque: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Christina Aguilera and Cher from the film of the same name. It was released on November 22, 2010 by RCA Records. L.P. also co-wrote with Pussycat Dolls' front woman, Nicole Scherzinger, and together they co-wrote "Cold" due to be released in 2011. L.P. is currently in the studio collaborating with Billy Steinberg, Nick Jonas, Flo-Rida, The Matrix, Isa Summers (from Florence and the Machine) and others.
