This live recording of the Sweet Honey in the Rock Community Chorus is the culmination of a class taught by Dr. Ysaye Barnwell in the Fall of 2003. Participants were invited to become a part of a 'Vocal Community' in every way possible.

The concert itself presents traditional and contemporary choral works celebrating Christmas, Kwanzaa, and more. The community chorus is joined by members of Sweet Honey in the Rock.

In addition to songs from original, traditional and contemporary African and African-American sources, as audiences have been hearing at Sweet Honey concerts for 30 years (Breaths, Denko, 7 Principles, Chant, etc.), it also includes an 8-part Nativity Suite from the Gospel of Luke, making this particularly appropriate for the winter holiday season.
