Renowned poet, essayist and political activist June Jordan and Adrienne Torf wrote and performed together for nearly 20 years, until June's death in 2002 from breast cancer. This studio recording, subtitled
Selected Works 1983-2000, includes 12 of their collaborative works, with June's brilliant poetry set to music by Adrienne. Half of the pieces feature June performing her poetry to music, the other half are sung by vocalists including Cris Williamson, Rhiannon, Andre dos Santos Morgan and Jeannie Tracy (previously a background singer for Sylvester). Adrienne provides arrangements and keyboard work on all selections. Also features Jan Martinelli on bass, Ray Obiedo on guitar, and Tom Miller on drums, percussion and steel drums. Highly recommended!
'Torfs gloriously eclectic music moves from pop to jazz to gospel, from waltz to funk. Jordan's lyrics are sharp, her song titles appropriately Brechtian, ironic and blunt.' - Steve Murray, Southline
