Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn (her first name pronounced as to rhyme with the former Italian currency) was born on September 17, 1974 at her parents then home on Westview Sreet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The youngest of three, Mirah grew up mostly in Bala Cynwyd, a suburb of Philadelphia. In her waning teen years, Mirah moved to Olympia, Washington to attend The Evergreen State College and found herself, four funny years later, with a diploma in her hands and a festoon of flowers about her neck. Continuing to reside in Olympia following graduation, she began making music by default, teaching herself to play guitar and composing 'songs', releasing her first album Storageland on yoyo Recordings in 1997. Proudly joining the roster of other fine artists on the K record label in 1999, she began to experiment with recording, producing some material by herself and also working with her close friend and favorite person to record with ever, Phil Elvrum. Several fantastic albums, You Think It's Like This But Really It's Like This (KLP112), Advisory Committee (KLP135), Cold, Cold Water (ipu100) & Songs from the Black Mountain Music Project (KLP150) have since been released by Mirah on K. In March of 2004, her mostly covers collaboration with the Black Cat Orchestra from Seattle, entitled to all we stretch the open arm, was released on yoyo recordings (www.yoyoagogo.com). Her newest release, c’mon Miracle(KLP 160), was released on K in May of 2004. Mirah has a big homo heart, is modest and deliberate, prefers privacy to invasion and reconciliation to war. Her middle name means good day or holy day in Hebrew.

Review

Something gentle this way comes in the form of Mirah and her third full-length album, C’mon Miracle. Many of her friends lend a helping hand, strumming the autoharp and bowing stringed instruments, accompanying the lilting, soaring voice that can not be mistaken: it’s Mirah! She’s come up with a whole new batch of songs, which though short on fanfare are long on solidity, pianos, drummers and the importance of standing up against oppression. If her first album, You Think It’s Like This but Really It’s Like This (KLP112) snuck up and surprised you, then her second album Advisory Committee (KLP135) stunned you with cannon fire, then sit back and relax as C’mon Miracle washes over you, its subtle ways etching itself into your psyche. It’s not big, it’s impressive.

C'mon Miracle is Mirah's third full-length solo album. When Mirah visited South America, specifically Argentina, she was struck by the music and culture, and several songs on C'mon Miracle reflect her experience, most notably "The Dogs of B.A.".
